I remember that feeling and the feeling of being helpless and lost and although I can't offer any resources to help you through it (I was given the "suck it up buttercup" advice as well) I can assure that you will get through it and when you look back it will seem like one blissful trip. Time has a way of stripping off the bad and leaving the memories polished and shiny.
